Increasing JA Members
JA is a cooperative organization whose membership is open to individuals and groups. Its members are divided into two categories; "regular members" who are farmers, and "associate members" who are not farmers, but generally residents in its territory including local workers and business people, using JA's services such as credit and insurance. In principle, "regular" and "associate" members can be provided with equal opportunities of patronizing JA's various business services as well as of participating in its activities.
The national total of JA regular members accounted 5.16 million as of the end of the fiscal year 2002, which is approximately 610,000 less than that in 1975. On the other hand, the number of associate members has been increasing year by year to be 3.91 million as of the same date.
The total number of JA regular and associate members has increased to 9.07 million by more than 1.35 million since 1975.
