JA Youths’ Association

JA Youths’ Association is a members’ organization of JA, which is composed of young core farmers active in the area served by JA.Youths’ association aims to build an affluent community based on their JA through enhanced consciousness of cooperation. As of May 2004, there were 601 associations with 76,353 members throughout the country.

The Youths’ Associations are engaged in study programs and legislative activities for the development of agriculture, as also in cultural, sports and exchange programs, etc. Of late, they are playing an active role in promoting school pupil’s farm plots as part of efforts to inherit safe diet and rich environment of nature to kids who will be the main players in the 21st Century. Campaigns to teach school children with joy of harvest as well as to supply local produce for school lunch are also actively promoted nationwide by JA Youths’ Associations.

In the face of falling agricultural prices, expanding agricultural imports, aside from decreasing and aging of farm workforce, “Campaign to Build Producing Areas Unbeatable by Imports” is also promoted, with the JA Youths’ Associations playing the central role. They are also promoting a campaign to “Produce Safe to Eat with Peace of Mind” kind of agricultural and livestock products through optimum use of farm chemicals and record keeping of production history in the wake of rising interest in safe food among consumers.

Furthermore, as part of JA reform to make it more responsive to the needs of JA youth’s members and future cores of area’s agriculture and JA movement, an increasing representation and participation is being made by youth’s association representatives on the management and supervisory committee to have their view reflected in the management of JAs.
