JA Women's Organizations
Outline of JA Women's Organizations
"JA Women's (Fujin) Groups" were established after the Second World War with a view to enhancing status of women and to having their voices reflected in the running of JAs. Hence, the groups had played central role in the better living activities and health maintenance activities of JAs. In 1995, their name was changed to "JA Womenfs Organizations (Josei Soshiki)," and women of non-farm households were also called on to join the organizations. As of December 2004, the membership counted 995 thousand.
JA Women's Organizations are very important in reinvigorating the business and operation of JAs as they are active these days in running the direct sales depots and in welfare activities for the aged members of the community, in addition to the farming- and better living-related and cultural activities. Participation of women in the running of JAs is to be aggressively promoted with creation of gender integrated society in mind.
